Thanksgiving Week was a short but very special one at Komal’s Daycare. Even with the holiday break, the children enjoyed cozy crafts, simple stories, and lots of fall themed fun.
We worked on two Thanksgiving coloring pages this week:

• Pumpkin pie
• Apple pie
While the children colored, we talked about fall colors, favorite holiday foods, and small things we feel thankful for during the day like friends, toys, and extra playtime.
As a special treat we also enjoyed a bit of naturally sweetened persimmon pie made with persimmons from the garden.

This Week’s Crafts
Rainboots for their Turkeys

The children loved decorating their bright yellow rainboots with colorful dots and stickers.
Handprint Turkeys

The children painted their palms and fingers to create colorful handprint turkeys. They had fun choosing bright feather colors, adding little eyes and beaks, and showing their finished art to their friends.
• Lattice Pie Paper Plates

For this craft, the children first painted the center of a paper plate to look like a pie filling. Some chose pumpkin, some chose apple, and others made berry inspired colors.

After the paint dried, they glued strips of construction paper across the top to create a lattice pattern. The children practiced:
Gluing the strips in a crisscross pattern
Lining up the strips neatly
Naming the type of pie they created
During our meals and story time, the children talked about familiar Thanksgiving foods like:
• Mashed potatoes
• Roasted vegetables
• Sweet potatoes
• Cranberry sauce
We read “Thanks for Thanksgiving”, a gentle and colorful book that helped the children think about gratitude. They enjoyed pointing out foods, fall scenes, and moments that felt familiar from their homes.
Even though it was a short week, the children made beautiful art, explored new textures, and shared warm moments with each other. Thanksgiving Week was full of creativity, learning, and gratitude and it was the perfect start to the holiday break.
